For us, 2018 will be remembered as the year Rick graduated from high school and started college. There’s more, of course - but those are the milestones that really stand out. Rick is now a freshman at University of Colorado / Colorado Springs, where he’s studying video game design and development. Celebrating his graduation in June was a thrill - thanks to the many friends and family who celebrated with us!
Robby is now a junior at Cal High, where he remains on the school improv team (Mission Improvable) and in the drama club. Our second licensed driver, Robby misses his brother but does not miss sharing the car! Robby recently started his first job - if you’re in the San Ramon area, be sure to stop by In-N-Out Burger where he’ll be more than happy to serve you.
Becca had a milestone of her own this year - she’s our third teenager! She is in her final year of middle school, where she remains a member of Symphonic Band. She’s made huge progress on her Silver Award project in Girl Scouts, and was confirmed earlier this year at Holy Cross. Along with Robby, she was a counselor at Holy Cross’ vacation bible school this summer.
As a family, we traveled to Kentucky and Tennessee for spring break -- we started in Mammoth Cave, where we spent several days underground marveling at one of the country’s most remarkable national parks. We were in Memphis on the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s death, which afforded us an opportunity to hear from a number of civil rights leaders commemorating his legacy, while also speaking to the tremendous amount of work left to be done. We also traveled to Yosemite (New Years and Father’s Day) and Cabo San Lucas (last trip before Rick went to college!).
Robin and I continue to do well. Getting to New Orleans to see JazzFest (our second time) was a thrill, and fun to share with several friends who made the trip with us. We had a wonderful trip driving to Colorado to get Rick moved into college in August, then enjoyed a leisurely drive home with stops in Aspen and Las Vegas. We celebrated our 21st anniversary in October, and are looking forward to a house full of family and friends at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Robin remains on the Ed100 and 32nd PTA Boards, was elected to the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation Board, and is in her second year as a member of the California PTA Board of Managers. I continue to love my work at GV, and remain active with both NCWIT and Defy Ventures.
Robin’s parents are now in their second year living with us, and are as eager as we are for the landscape work to be completed so we can consider the backyard “done”.
It is a highlight of each year when we put together our year in review photo album, and reflect on how fortunate we are to have had opportunities to spend time with so many of you. We hope that 2018 was as good for you as it was for us, and if your travels take you to the San Francisco area, that you swing by and say hi.
Love,
Rick, Robin, Rick (18), Robby (16), Becca (13).
